ONE-OFF CRITIQUES – expression of interest
Need help with writing craft or a particular element of your manuscript?
A one-off critique will provide feedback and guidance on isolated portions of your manuscript or synopsis.
We’ll visit all elements of writing craft including pacing, characterization and character arc, GMC (goal, motivation, conflict), hooking your reader, point of view and more. I’ll not only identify these issues but I will help give you the skills and know-how to find and fix them yourself.
This is a great opportunity for any writer wanting to take their craft to the next level.

Michelle is the best! Her feedback is thorough, to the point and actionable. She didn’t just look at what was on the page but what was behind it, delving deep into my characters’ GMC and making sure that was clear and coming through. We went through multiple rounds, getting closer to my ideal synopsis every time. I’ve learnt heaps, both about what a synopsis needs to do and how to create a compelling one.

I recently had the chance to work with Michelle on a pitch. She’s amazing! Fast response, patient, knowledgeable and worked with me until it was right. Her understanding of how to get my characters GMC across in such a short amount of time was incredible. I learnt so much that I can apply to future pitches.
I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending her!

I’m like most writers; distilling my novel into a one-page synopsis is the worst form of torture! Thankfully, Michelle helped me through the maze – firstly, Michelle’s brilliant book ‘Simply Synopsis’, provided an excellent reference source. Make sure you read it from cover to cover, there’s real gems in there! Then we did a Skype call and Michelle critiqued a couple of versions of the one pagers I emailed her. In record time, I saw daylight… made new mental connections and voila! The emotional through line of my story had never come across louder, or clearer! Thanks so much Michelle 🙂

I was lucky enough to have a one-on-one critiquing session with Michelle. I submitted 300 words of my novel beforehand, along with a plan of the GMC (goal, motivation, conflict), followed by a skype discussion.
Even before the session, Michelle asked questions by email to quiz me on the finer points, and gave valuable feedback also by email. Her preparation for our consultation was truly impressive, her questions and advice were specific and insightful, yet related to the whole manuscript. She sent copious notes afterwards. As a direct result, I made real improvements to the manuscript.
Michelle has a rare combination of warmth, creativity and analytical ability – she sees problems quickly, explains them clearly, and offers solutions. She gave her feedback in a most empathetic way. I was like a sponge, soaking up her wisdom. And to top it all off, she’s a delightful person. I can’t wait to work with her again.

I came to understand my writing because of Michelle’s feedback. Her comments added another dimension to my work and I am now ready to move forward with renewed energy and vision. Thank you Michelle.
Jake Corvus –
I received one-on-one feedback from Michelle on a synopsis. Her insight was fantastic, and she went above and beyond, assessing and critiquing the material I provided. She took great lengths to be sure that both I understood her feedback, and she understood my story. I could tell she genuinely wanted a good outcome for me developmentally.
Her insights helped me develop and improve, not just the synopsis, but the rest of the manuscript. Michelle is knowledgeable, personable and professional.

I attended Michelle’s online workshop that included a 300-word one-to-one review. I was amazed by the depth of content. Michelle’s workshop was brilliant, well-paced, with sufficient activities and parallel examples to engage all writers’ standards.
Ordinarily, I would never have subjected myself to expose part of my novella at such an early stage, yet her professional, encouraging feedback was profound.
Thank you again,
Lynn

I attended Michelle’s one-on-one workshop at the start of this year, and it was absolutely wonderful! Her feedback was detailed, clear to understand and really helped strengthen my piece – she’s also really lovely, and super helpful in advising on any future ideas/directions you may have for your project. Her workshop is a great way to both thoroughly improve a specific portion of your manuscript, and understand a lot more about the craft of writing in general and how to take your whole project to the next level. Absolutely would recommend! Thanks again Michelle!
